SIOUX CITY -- A 35-year-old Sioux City man was arrested after he allegedly punched his pit bull in the face about 30 times, causing its death Tuesday morning, Sioux City police said.
Bobby Loggins was upset the dog had urinated on the carpet during a house party at 1611 23rd St. and he struck the animal several times in the face in front of four witnesses, Sioux City Police Sgt. Mike Post said. Post said Loggins was intoxicated when the incident happened.
Post said 34-year-old Chad Peterson was one of the witnesses and reported the incident to police.
Loggins told police he accidentally slammed the dog's head in the door. Another of the witnesses, who wasn't named, told police the dog had been hit by a car, Post said.
Loggins has been charged with animal torture and filing a false police report, both misdemeanors.
Loggins was released from jail on bond about two hours after being taken into custody, according to the Woodbury County Jail.
